World renowned artist Asger Carlsen photographed Collini Milano’s debut advertising campaign in New York under the direction of the brand’s new owner and creative director Carmine Rotondaro.
Carlsen, famed for his invention of outlandish parallel worlds through manipulation of photographic based materials, heightens Collini’s rule- breaking gender fluid glamour to an “extreme state of being”.
A golden trench clad woman reveals a surrealistic and even unsettling peculiarity, lips where eyes should be, while another image depicts a male/female couple attired in interchangeable and captivating outfits that transcend all male/female barriers. The artist has created a total of 10 works to illustrate the Collini Milano Fall Winter 2019 collection, to be featured in selected publications worldwide starting on August 5th.
Carlsen’s surreal interpretation of the ordinary, his clouding of divisions between photography and art and between fantasy and reality is what initially attracted Rotondaro to his work, along with the artist’s penchant for breaking rules and exploring new territory on his own terms. This ‘unminimal’ attitude is very close to the Collini point of view as Rotondaro sees it, where “rules are being broken in regards to gender separation, where fashion experimentation around the body is continuous, and contamination of aesthetic codes is the rule”.
