The urge to break free from the constrictions we went through during the pandemic, the necessity to reemerge from the numbing reality we’ve been living for the past two years, a new, refreshing energy that’s rising from the ashes: that’s the essence of the Spring Summer 2022 DROMe Collection.
A quirky and frenetic set of looks that take inspiration from many different sparks and mix them together with an unstoppable centrifugal force: the rave aesthetics of the filmmaker Gregg Araki, with his kaleidoscope of images, flashes, brash colours, a surreal atmosphere that’s both dreamy and rough, mesmerising and disturbing.
The hypnotic sound of the musician Aphex Twin and the music of Nils Frahm, where noises, synths and beats merge into a daydream vision. The intimate yet powerful sensuality of the women portrayed by photographers Nan Goldin and Nobuyoshi Araki in their “Tokyo” series.
A combination of influences seen through a late ‘90s / early ‘00s lens, the turn of the millennium, recalling that forceful feeling of new beginnings. The Collection is fierce and deconstructed: underwear pieces subvert jackets and dresses, formalwear garments are paired with tight viscose pants and tops that embrace the body as a second skin, mini jackets and mini tops contrast with wide pants and squared oversize coats.
Textures, volumes and unexpected details blend into an eclectic mix, evoking a joyful sense of anarchy with a subtle weirdness. Pure tones as black, white and nude are mixed with flashy colours of acid green, shocking pink and bright blue; leather is treated with an ultraviolet slightly embossed dripping print, with splashes of colour breaking the linearity of the essential silhouettes and the monochrome surfaces.
The protagonist is a postmodern heroine, confident and energetic, an invitation to be fearless once again: this season Creative Director Marianna Rosati brings us on a saturated journey towards the future that’s about to start.
