Reopened to traffic on 20 June after the winter closure, the Stelvio streets inaugurated the summer season by hosting Top Gear, the magazine of the homonymous TV program produced by the BBC television channel, engaged in a special shooting for the promotion of the new Lamborghini Countach. . Since the 1930s, the Alpine pass has been the scene of car races that have seen riders of the caliber of Nuvolari, Hans Stuck and Caracciola compete, starting in front of the Hotel Bella Vista in Trafoi, the historic family structure of the ski champion Gustav Thöni who welcomed the editorial staff during the shoot.
This year, one of the most popular Alpine passes by sportsmen and others, inaugurated the summer season with a special initiative: the Top Gear photo shoot took place a few weeks ago on the Passo dello Stelvio dedicated to the new Lamborghini Countach, among the streets that have been the stage for important car races since the 1930s. The London editors were hosted in the historic structure of the Thöni family, the Hotel Bella Vista, the gateway to the spectacular Alpine pass and home of the famous ski champion Gustav Thöni, as well as the starting point of car races that made history.
The special was published yesterday by Top Gear, the number one car magazine, with 1 million readers in the UK and 10 million readers worldwide.
For the third time Top Gear chooses the Stelvio and the Hotel Bella Vista in Trafoi as the “Top Gear Hotel” and favorite destination for car enthusiasts: in 2009 during the television program Jeremy Clarkson declared the Stelvio “Greatest road in the world “; in 2011 “Stig” the mysterious driver of the TV show invited 10 “Super Cars” to the Stelvio for a photo shoot signed by the famous British magazine.
The location well interprets the hidden meaning of the “Countach“, a term that derives from “contacc!”, An exclamation of amazement and wonder in the Piedmontese dialect. “What unites the Stelvio to the Countach ?! Both are works of art, emotion, greatness and glory. The Countach on the Stelvio? At this altitude it is literally made for the sky!” exclaims Oliver Marriage, head of Top Gear car testing “I invite you to drive on the Stelvio, but also sleep in the area, enjoy the local cuisine and wines and admire the imposing pass .. like the Taj Mahal or the Great Wall of China!” .
