In a video posted on the social channels of Miss Italia, the finalists of the historic beauty contest appear while they cut their hair as a sign of solidarity with the struggle of Iranian women, who have been protesting for days against the ayatollahs’ regime for the death of Masha Amani, the girl arrested by the Iranian police because she was not wearing the hijab properly and later declared dead after three days in a coma following an urgent transport to hospital.

The finalists themselves also posted photos on their social channels with the hashtag #MissItaliaXIranianWomen, expressing their dissent for what is denounced, in various parts of the world, as a complete lack of civil liberties.

“What is really needed is the continuity of information and attention” – says Patrizia Mirigliani, patron of Miss Italia, in the video clip, cutting off a lock of hair in front of the lens as well, and continues “Now we are focused on Iran, unfortunately, however, we are witnessing a regression of the condition of women, not only in the Arab world but also here, in the West, in Italy, where we are grappling daily with prejudices and stereotypes.

The emancipation of women, unfortunately, should never be taken for granted. Iranian women have shown us that they need us, they have given us a strong call, they have asked us not to be left alone, because they are taking to the streets, they are demonstrating and fighting for their dignity. We cannot ignore them.” And he concludes with a thought for Alessia Piperno “Riportiamola a casa”. #MissItaliaXIranianWomen
