According to the Gympass platform, 2022 will be the year of hybrid training
Two years after the onset of the pandemic, new training habits have now established themselves among Italians. If 2020 had in fact led to a sudden change in the routine of all sportsmen and lovers of physical activity, 2021 saw the consolidation of new training habits that accompanied Italians in a succession of periods of lockdown and more or less forced isolation.

This is also confirmed by the data collected by Gympass, the largest corporate wellbeing platform in the world, which analyzed the preferences of the year just ended, to make its own forecasts with respect to the 2022 trend.

The return to the gym
Fully reflecting the trend of the health situation and the resulting restrictions, the number of accesses to the gym remained low between January and May 2021, to undergo a surge (+ 143%) in June, a turning point in reopening. It was then October, November and December that marked a record of admissions to sports facilities in the area (also thanks to the typical “back to workout” enthusiasm), with a total of check-ins that in three months practically equaled that of everything the rest of the year.

Live sessions online, an established habit
Coming to the live sessions, which can be carried out online via the app, it is precisely in the first months of 2021 that they recorded the highest numbers: a sign that the possibility of relying on professional trainers even at a distance is now an increasingly popular habit, especially to avoid giving up physical activity altogether when it is not possible to access gyms. To demonstrate this, also the total of live sessions over the 12 months of 2021, which saw an increase of 133% compared to 2020.

The most popular timetables and activities
Post-work training is confirmed as the favorite among Italians, with 54% of sessions starting between 5pm and 8pm on Monday to Friday, confirming that physical activity is also used as a moment of decompression and well-being at the end of the working day; on the weekend, however, the preferred time is in the morning, with 58% of training sessions between 9:00 and 12:00.

Finally, the type of activity to be carried out is strictly linked to the type of session chosen, between live lessons in the gym and live sessions on the app: in the first case, cardio and bodybuilding are the most popular, while pilates and yoga are the most performed. remotely, right after personalized training sessions with PT online.

2022, the year of hybrid training
“In a scenario still strongly influenced by the pandemic, 2022 will be a year in which the new habits acquired by Italians in terms of training will be consolidated more and more. Hybrid training, which combines live training and online exercises, will in fact remain a constant, “comments Andrea Bandini, CEO of Gympass Italia. “In fact, we have found that those users who mix exercises in the gym and digital workouts tend to train more often, and therefore to build a lasting habit over time. We at Gympass will continue to work to guarantee all our users an increasingly complete and 360 ° offer, with the aim of supporting companies and their employees in maintaining the highest level of psycho-physical well-being “.
