This is the message that the Fashion Award “Città dei Sassi” with the Cultural Association Officina della Cultura di Matera (European Capital of Culture 2019) want to launch from Matera.

The prestigious Città dei Sassi Fashion Prize supports all courageous women who fight against violence and promote peace in the world. At a time when violence persists as a sad reality, it is essential to join forces to put an end to this injustice and build a peaceful and harmonious future.

Through the Città dei Sassi Fashion Award with the Cultural Association ‘Officina della Cultura’, we want to use fashion as a powerful vehicle of expression to promote the message of non-violence and spread the culture of peace. By supporting and encouraging stylists, designers and creative people from all over the world to use their talent and art to create garments and collections that convey this important message of solidarity and hope.


It also aims to promote diversity and inclusion in the fashion industry by encouraging authentic representation of all women and supporting female empowerment, creating a space where every voice can be heard and appreciated, regardless of ethnicity, origin, sexual orientation or ability. Through fashion, one can help redefine standards of beauty and promote gender equality.

The commitment of the City of Sassi Fashion Award is to work towards a world in which all women can live free from violence and in a context of lasting peace, recognising their courage and determination by supporting them in every way possible.

Il Premio Moda Città dei Sassi” (2008-2023) is a “Showcase Exhibition/Event in support of young creative fashion designers, (students, graduates of Academies, Universities and/or State and Private Schools, designers, fashion stylists, pattern makers and fashion operators).

Set up to promote female total look fashion artisans/creatives from all over the world, to highlight their artistic skills and make themselves known through the media to an international audience, thanks to the presence of fashion exponents, the press, both National and International television networks and the public present.

The event now in its 12th edition, conceived and organised by Officina della Cultura, Artistic Director Enzo Centonze, Direction and Choreography by Stefania Coralluzzo as well as responsible for the entire Artistic part, Press Office and Public Relations Nicola Altomonte, Scenographic set-up (Audio/luci/ledwall) Crewlapesa.com di Angelo Lapesa, Regia video Verardi Produzioni di Antonio Verardi, vedrà il suo clou il 23 July 2023 at 8.30 p.m. in the beautiful Piazza di San Francesco d’Assisi – Matera, with showgirl and actress Nadia Bengala hosting.

The event will open on the afternoon of 22 July 2023 at 6.30 p.m. on the Terrace of Palazzo Ducale Malvinni-Malvezzi – Matera with the presentation of the Yearbook “Il Foglio della Moda” edited by Fabiana Giacomotti, journalist, writer, curator of theatrical, television and fashion costume exhibitions, author and television consultant for RAI, lecturer and fashion correspondent, and moderator Rosalba Stasolla (lecturer in History of Costume).

On the occasion of the second year of the monthly insert, “Il Foglio della Moda”, published with the Foglio every first Thursday of the month and edited by Fabiana Giacomotti, available in Italian bookshops and newsagents, the release of the “Yearbook April 2022 – March 2023 of the Foglio della Moda” is celebrated on the occasion of the 2023 “Città dei Sassi” Fashion Award.


The edition is numbered 1/1000, hand-bound, i.e. in large sheet format, the volume publishes anastatic copies of all the issues of the insert. In the centre is a collection of the “XII plates” edited by Marco Dambrosio, aka Makkox, taken from the content and image wraps that surround each issue. At the back, English translations of the editorials: Lorenzo Bertelli, Mario De Simoni, Ida Maria Ellekilde, Leonardo Ferragamo, Massimiliano Gioni, Massimiliano Giornetti, Laura Lusuardi, Aldo Melpignano, Fabio Novembre, Martine Rose, Paola Severini Melograni, Nicoletta Spagnoli.

Il Foglio della Moda”, coming out with the daily Il Foglio, is made up of: four pages plus four on a monographic theme, an amazing table by Makkox, many illustrations and special photographic projects, many conventions and interviews spread via social media, but above all fashion told through the themes dear to the Foglio – i.e. politics, culture, industry – with the network formula.

Il Foglio waited many years before choosing to deal with this sector, the insert has a very special formula, it tells the story of fashion through those who make it, manage it and also those who study it. For the first time, in fact, major Italian and foreign universities are becoming part of a cultural project with a series of associations that will be the great network.

Media partner Fashion Channel, realised with the patronage and collaboration of the Basilicata Region, the Province and Municipality of Matera, the APT Azienda di Promozione Turistica della Basilicata, Fondazione Matera – Basilicata 2019 and with the support of the cultural project of Cosp Tecno Service.


The event is rich in an articulated show with television times and is reserved for the new generation of fashion creators at national and international level who will be able to bring their haute couture creations to life, proposing their ideas of elegance and creativity before a large audience, largely made up of company representatives and experts in the sector, the press, the authorities and the many tourists who flock to the City of the Sassi during the summer.

A completare il look delle modelle sarà il Make Up Artist Team diretto da Sara de Virgilio che, con la sua SDV Academy Make Up, si occuperà del trucco, mentre le hair stylist Primadonna di Patrizia Leontini e Miss Edward di Elisa Massari realizzeranno le acconciature, per le fotografie: Vincenzo Testa, Enzo Dell’Atti e Mario Palma.

The Fashion Award 2023 “Città dei Sassi”, crossroads of International Haute Couture, attracts young stylists to Matera for the 12th edition and after a careful selection sees the participation of the five finalists 1) Casale Raimonda from the province of Verona, she will present a collection inspired by the night with stars, women shine with charm and seduction, 2) Rosmery Conterosito from Matera, her collection is inspired by her home territory, Matera, her outfits recall the mysterious nature full of charm and a bit wild, 3) Sonia Flauto of Sassari, her capsule collection is called ‘Origami’, hence, skirts with multiple pleats and bodices made with hand ruffles, 4) Fabrizio Minardo of Ragusa, presents a collection entitled ‘Clio’ inspired by the 9 Muses: a femininity capable of fascinating, 5) Sara Sabato from the province of Potenza, her collection ‘Infinity’ invites us to grasp the infinite possibilities that every moment offers us after the pandemic first, and the war later, have shown us the fragility of the human condition.

A prestigious international jury of insiders (journalists, stylists, industry experts, trade associations and institutions) will decide the winners: The jury is composed of the fashion designers: Gianni Molaro, Michele Miglionico, the journalists: Fabiana Giacomotti (Il Foglio), Letizia Schatzinger (Letizianews Letter), Bea Spediacci (Fashion Channel), Maila Tritto (La Gazzetta del Mezzogiorno), Michele Capolupo (SassiLive), the lecturer in History of Costume: Rosalba Stasolla, fashion expert: Marzio Nocera (Fashion Channel) and the Councillor for Tourism and Culture of the Municipality of Matera Tiziana d’Oppido.


A special moment of the evening will be the presentation of the Fashion Excellence Award 2023 to Italian and European designers.  On this occasion, the following stylists will present their collections and receive awards: 1) Nella Luongo from San Giorgio del Sannio (BN), presents the collection “Reborn (Rinascere)” is a narrative between past, present and future, an experience of beauty and resilience, 2) Paolo Fumarulo from Santeramo in Colle: , the collection, experiments, moulds, transforms, pushes the boundaries of reality by creating original fusions between transparencies and nude effects, elegant, modern and rigorous formal and bridal dresses, 3) Grazia Urbano of San Severo (FG), her collection is refined, elegant, with refined details such as lace, feathers and sequins for a woman of character and good taste, 4) Renata la Rena of Bratislava (Slovakia), presents her collection ‘the woman and the summer’, her slightly vintage and sunny vision of a femininity that feels like a protagonist in today’s society, 5) Giampaolo Proietto of Ragusa: Secret Garden collection inspired by the beauty of flower gardens. Sculpture dresses with flower petals and leaves sculpted on the bodices, a combination of transparencies and embroidered tulle.

Representing Italian Haute Couture will be the guest of honour Gianni Molaro, a Neapolitan stylist of European renown and a great connoisseur of Haute Couture, who stands out on the national fashion scene with his wonderful Haute Couture Bridal and Ceremonial collections. Holder of no less than three Guinness World Records: the longest veil in the world, the widest dress in the world and the most precious dress in the world. The designer was on TV for ten years alongside Caterina Balivo and then Bianca Guaccero in the programme Detto Fatto on Rai2. The designer will present a Haute Couture capsule that identifies his vision, his creative identity, his woman and on this occasion he will receive the 2023 “Città dei Sassi” Fashion Award as a prestigious icon of Made in Italy.

Completing the models’ look will be the Make Up Artist Team directed by Sara de Virgilio who, with her SDV Academy Make Up, will take care of the make-up, while hair stylists Primadonna by Patrizia Leontini and Miss Edward by Elisa Massari will create the hairstyles, for the photographs: Vincenzo Testa, Enzo Dell’Atti and Mario Palma.


Prizes will also be awarded
– for the category Fashion Award 2023 Young Excellence to the professional dancer from Bucharest and dance teacher Nas Nicolle Rebeca. She has danced in the best international theatres and will present two beautiful choreographies on this occasion. She will be honoured for raising awareness, through dance, of burning issues concerning women, such as human rights and violence;

– for the category Fashion Award 2023 Eccellenze to the artistic impresario Tonino Galli, who for years has been pursuing the path of spreading Made in Italy in the world by organising fashion shows, especially in his native Sicily. He has also created a wonderful synergy and cultural interaction, proposing the tailoring of European and International designers in Italy and abroad.

A special highlight of the evening will be the presentation of the Peace Dress. The AIDE association wanted to make its contribution to the culture of Peace. Starting from an idea of President Anna Selvaggi, it has involved 21 women, gathered around the virtual hearth, rediscovering and revaluing ancient manual skills. The dress is a symbol of painstaking tenacity that explodes in the blaze of colours and harmony of forms. Ideally, every woman wears this dress proud and proud to be the Lady of Peace.


The years go by and Matera with its enchanted landscape continues to fascinate and excite. Its natural, artistic beauty meets and illuminates Italian Haute Couture and Italian Excellence, in the sign of tailoring, uniqueness, innate elegance aimed at exploring new creative horizons. A journey into Italian creativity and excellence to look to the past and thus build the future of Made in Italy.
