The Vivienne Westwood 2024 Sun Collection is reminiscent of a palette: the face is illuminated by broad brushstrokes of colour, inspired by the works of Artemisia Gentileschi, the 17th century Italian painter who was the first woman to be a member of the Accademia delle Arti del Disegno in Florence.
Futuristic iridescent and metallic materials contrast with the vibrant baroque palette, through bold vintage-inspired silhouettes, taking their cue from the glittery 70s and 80s.
The collection harks back to the glamorous icons of New York’s historic Studio 54 club: Tina Turner, Bianca Jagger and Liza Minnelli. As well as past heroes from the world of entertainment and culture: pin-up Jayne Mansfield, musicians Lou Reed and John Cale, Italian performer Moira Orfei, fashion designers Yves Saint Laurent, Elsa Peretti and Judy Blame, and Hollywood legends such as Arthur Miller.
Classic glamour, combined with a contemporary touch, creates an eclectic and timeless line. The most emblematic frames are offered in tortoiseshell and acetate patterns shaded in unexpected colours, and small pearls – the house’s iconic motif – embellish some models.
Frameless proposals are inspired by the look of 90s sports goggles, with metal details on the temples. In the creation of this collection, utmost attention was given to the choice of raw materials and their impact.
The handmade acetate frames and temples are made of an innovative material, Eastman’s Acetate Renew, which is 60% bio-based and 40% recycled. The bio-based part is made from renewable pulp cellulose from FSC-certified sources.
The recycled part comes from plastic waste removed from landfill, which would otherwise not be reused.
The packaging of the collection has also been carefully designed and consists of a recycled leather case, an organic cotton sachet and a recycled polyester cloth also made from recycled polyester. All produced with 100% green energy.
