This year stars decided to make a major fashion statement and a powerful one at that by all wearing black outfits.
To show their support of the newly launched Time’s Up movement, they decided to wear the shade as a sign of solidarity against the epidemic of sexual harassment in the entertainment industry and beyond. But the all black dress code didn’t limit the stars when it came to their style. In addition to wearing beautiful fashion, stars also took the opportunity to get creative and meaningful with their style choices. From the women who opted to wear pants instead of dresses, to the nail polish blackout seen on women and men, these are the style moments that got us talking.
Jennifer Aniston chose Schiaparelli Haute Couture. The American actress wore a strapless evening dress created for the occasion, in silk velvet enriched with a pleated silk chiffon insert.
Nominee Jessica Chastain wore a custom Armani Privé black velvet halter neck gown with a plunging back accented by silver and jet black crystal embroidery and an extensive train. Chastain is nominated for Best Performance by an Actress in a Motion Picture, Drama for her work in “Molly’s Game.”
Nominee Laura Dern wore a custom Armani Privé black, silk satin gown embroidered completely in crystals with a deep veiled slit and an extending tulle train. Dern is nominated for Best Performance by an Actress in a Supporting Role in a Series, Limited Series or Motion Picture Made for Television for her work in “Big Little Lies.” Presenter Ava DuVernay wore a custom Armani Privé black gown featuring a crystal-embroidered long-sleeved top with structured, embellished shoulders and an elegantly draped silk satin, belted skirt.
Actress Allison Williams wore an Armani Privé black strapless column gown fully embroidered in beaded fringe with a silver and tangerine decorated bustier. Nominee Armie Hammer wore a Giorgio Armani black two-button shawl collar micro-dot pattern evening jacket trimmed in grosgrain along with formal evening trousers, a classic white shirt and a bow tie. Nominee Steven Spielberg wore a Giorgio Armani black two-button notch lapel tuxedo with a classic black evening shirt and a bow tie. Spielberg is nominated for Best Director of a Motion Picture for his nominated film “The Post.” Nominee Guillermo del Toro wore a Giorgio Armani Made to Measure midnight blue one-button peak lapel tuxedo trimmed in grosgrain along with a classic white evening shirt and a bow tie. Del Toro is nominated for Best Director of a Motion Picture and Best Screenplay of a Motion Picture for his film “The Shape of Water.” Nominee Benj Pasek wore a Giorgio Armani black two-button shawl collar tuxedo trimmed in velvet with a classic white evening shirt and a bow tie. Nominee Justin Paul wore a Giorgio Armani black two-button shawl collar tuxedo with a black evening shirt and a bow tie. Paul’s song “This Is Me” from “The Greatest Showman” is nominated for Best Original Song in a Motion Picture. Ricky Martin wore a midnight blue two-button notch lapel micro dot pattern evening jacket trimmed in grosgrain along with formal evening trousers, a classic white shirt and a bow tie. Darren Criss wore a Giorgio Armani black double breasted peak lapel tone on tone camouflage pattern tuxedo trimmed in velvet with a black shirt and a bowtie.Sean Hayes wore a Giorgio Armani black two-button notch lapel tuxedo with a classic white evening shirt and a bow tie. Joe Keery wore an Emporio Armani black one-button peak lapel tuxedo with a classic white evening shirt and a bow tie. Luca Guadagnino wore a Giorgio Armani tuxedo. Guadagnino directed the nominated film “Call Me by Your Name.” Michael Gracey wore a Giorgio Armani black two-button peak lapel tuxedo with a classic white evening shirt and a bow tie. Fatih Akin wore a Giorgio Armani black two-button shawl collar tuxedo with a classic white evening shirt and a bow tie.
Edgar Ramirez wore a Bottega Veneta tuxedo.Jamie Chung chose to wear a black leather bustier dress and an asymmetric tulle skirt embellished with lace inlays by Ermanno Scervino.
Alessandra Mastronardi, Chanel ambassador, wore a black tulle dress embroidered with feathers and sequins, from the Mètiers d’art Paris-Hamburg 2017/18 collection.
Caitriona Balfe, lead actress in Outlander, wore a long black silk taffeta dress embroidered with crystals and tulle flowers from the fall winter 2017/18 Chanel haute couture collection.
Michael Keaton, presenter at the Golden Globe Awards wore a Burberry tuxedo.
