Emily in Paris – Netflix
Chanel is pleased to announce its participation in the new Netflix TV show “Emily in Paris”, created by Darren Star *, well known for using fashion to help define central characters in his series. Chanel loaned outfits and accessories to the production for Emily’s character, played by English American actress Lily Collins.
The TV series tells the story of Emily, an ambitious twenty-something marketing executive from Chicago who unexpectedly lands her dream job in Paris when her company acquires a French luxury marketing company — and she is tasked with revamping their social media strategy. Emily’s new life in Paris is filled with intoxicating adventures and surprising challenges as she juggles winning over her work colleagues, making friends, and navigating new romances.
As Paris and fashion are inextricably linked, the costume designer Marylin Fitoussi worked with consultant Patricia Field, the famous stylist behind all the iconic looks in “Sex and the City”. She chose many Chanel classics pieces, from a green tweed jacket from the Cruise 2019/20 collection to a white embroidered cropped teeshirt, a leather jacket, a silk foulard and several bags, from classics in many different colors to more spectacular ones, such as the giant pearl. They also got inspired by Chanel ambassador Caroline de Maigret to create the looks of French actress Camille Razat’s character.

In conversation with Patricia Field, consulting costume designer:
How does Chanel define Emily’s character and is so important to her?
Chanel was super important in defining Emily’s character as we used it for her eclectically and youthful way. For example, we mixed the green Chanel jacket with a one of a kind artist’s patchwork dress. We also paired that outfit with a green Chanel bag. I love mixing Chanel in new ways. In addition, Emily jogs in a Chanel white embroidered T-shirt repeatedly. We also loved the giant pearl bag, which we paired with a miniature beret as both pieces were eye catching with a huge sense of humor.
Why Chanel is such a legacy for Paris fashion and why was it so important to include in the TV show?
Chanel is very important for me in my work as I find it delightfully easy to mix and match. Chanel is a classic and classics never die. The most important thing is how Chanel is styled to appeal to a younger audience.
How did you make your vision of CHANEL evolve between Sex & The City and Emily in Paris as you worked on both TV shows?
I used Chanel in both EIP and SATC because what I love about Chanel is how you can mix it in new and eye-catching ways. Essentially Chanel does not have an evolution, it simply stays great looking through time.
